The BBC is on a hiring spree for Social Media talent. Did I just say ‘Talent’? Yeah, right.
Anyway, they have appointed Chris Jones, as Social Media Manager. Chris will be tasked with ensuring the BBC uses social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook to spread the word about its shows, and to engage the potential audience.
They have previously hired Alex Gubbay as Social Media Editor, who is charged with the editorial development of user-generated content and social media initiatives within the BBC Newsroom.
Although this is a very PR, Marketing and News related roles, it just goes to show how the Beeb are looking at Social Media.
Hopefully, it won’t be long before they start using Social Media Recruiting to attract talent – talent that will not break its budget and bring up the wrath of license fee payers, concerned over their over inflated salaries and expenses.
