Have been working a lot on our new oil jobsite, CareersOilGas.com which is due for public launch in July - we hope the 1st. Tidying up lots of codes and getting feedback from early users about better ways to improve their online recruitment experience.

We are starting an online marketing campaign for candidates and recruiters from next week, and generate enough prudent buzz in the early launch stages.

The site has started gaining some SEO grounds, getting indexed in search engines and growing in some rankings. Again, its early days.

We have experienced quite a few interests from major oil & gas recruiters and will further establish our offerings while also listening to them to better understand their needs.

There is competition - which only but makes things more interesting. Will write more updates on this and other endeavors in the days to come.

However, the new Crexia Limited will focus on developing online jobsite, job boards and recruitment portals for UK & International markets.

Having said that, its with pleasure that we have launched today a brand new site for the Oil & Gas industry called - CareersOilGas.com

I have been spending quite sometime on LinkedIn these days - and have been very impressed at the volume of profiles on there.

Growing rapidly, especially with this current economic downtime, LinkedIn now attracts over 40 Million professionals in 200 countries.

Mostly used by web savvy recruiters and business owners, are now using LinkedIn to expand their networking and International appeal. The beauty of LinkedIn is, the more contacts you have, the more you can view specific kind of professionals. Hence, when I had 100 contacts, I might only see around 1000 results for some searches.

Somehow, I have exceeded the 500+ contacts and counting (connect with me on LinkedIn), and now get hundreds of thousands of profiles when I do searches related to current projects I am working on. Brilliant!

Current limit on LinkedIn is 30,000 contacts. I think my target for July 31st 2009, will be 5000 contacts, i.e 20 Million connections in my network. Catch me if you can …

While the effects of the global economy and financial crisis is beginning to affect emerging markets, we seem to be getting quite a few finance jobs from Nigeria.

At the moment, am searching for a Finance Director for a few firms. One of the businesses is a Telecommunications firm, and candidates must have worked in similar capacity.

Another of my client is an FMCG/Manufacturing industry who is looking for a CFO/Finance Director from multinational FMCG. Both roles will be based in Lagos, with International travel.

Typically, candidates for both finance roles should have around 10-15 years experience in Financial Management, with strong understanding of International Financial standards and reporting (GAAP, IFRS).

If you are someone with those skills or you know someone, please contact me.

Just off the press today, is the sadder news of the hyperinflation plaguing Zimbabwe. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has introduced a new family of trillion Zim-dollar banknotes in denominations of 100 trillion, 50 trillion, 20 trillion and 10 trillion that go into circulation on Friday, starting with the 10 trillion notes, its is reported.

The 20 trillion, 50 trillion and 100 trillion notes will be introduced gradually. In a statement on Thursday, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe said the notes will ensure that those in formal employment withdraw their salaries with minimal hassle.

“In a move meant to ensure that the public has access to their money from banks, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has introduced a new family of banknotes which will gradually come into circulation, starting with the 10 trillion,” read the statement from the RBZ.

This is rather sad. But for those who like to keep rarities, a clamour to get a hold of a Trillion Dollars will be interesting, as something show the generations to come.

Australia is advertising the perfect job for someone who wants to take a break from the credit crunch - a six-month sabbatical on a tropical island.

And best of all, says the Queensland Tourist Board, there is absolutely no catch.

The authorities are looking for a caretaker for Hamilton Island, which has year-round sunshine, sandy beaches, warm lagoons and sea life galore.

Free return flights, transfers, expenses and transport are included in the deal, not to mention pay of just under £6,000 a month. The lucky person who lands the job will also stay in a three-bedroom villa, set on a shady hill overlooking the sea.

Just so you know, this is typical in the UK and also felt in other parts of the world, maybe in Nigeria.

The second Monday of the year, when people are back to their jobs after the holiday excesses, and New Year resolutions (quit smoking, loose weight, health healthier etc) have gone outside of the window and the same boss is breathing over your shoulder at work - you want out and people tend to look for new jobs.

Crexia started off 2009 on a good note and I am currently working on a few search assignments, while coordinating the team efforts in Lagos. The roles are with some major Banks and Telecoms firms in Nigeria. Typical candidates come with at least 15 years and ideally, candidates will have wide and relevant International experience.

In case you you or your company needs a professional recruitment process, for your Executive Search needs, please don’t hesitate to make contact.

I have spent the last few months focusing on developing a more strategic and effective Executive Search & Selection firm for Nigeria and West Africa, and the future is promising.

Today, am reflecting a bit on the year 2008 and seriously making plans for 2009 - like many other people. Hopefully, it will be exciting for my professional career and business and the anticipated global recession will not have a major influence.

This blog (after many trials), will exclusively focus on my personal and professional thoughts on recruitment in Nigeria, Executive Search and Selection in Africa and Talent sourcing in Europe and the US.

Wishing everyone a wonderful year in 2009!
