Benjamin Ellis, Social Technologist and Founder of Redcatco & SocialOptic spoke at #SWCONF 2011 about Social Software for Workplace Productivity & Collaborations. Find Benjamin’s slides embeded as well as some additional thoughts.
A great thought that I picked up on from Benjamin’s presentation actually had to do with what happens when an employee leaves a company. When someone moves on to a new organization, the intellectual property within their inbox usually fades away.
It might be stored on a server somewhere, but not many people will access it again. This can be a drain on resources, as other employees might have to do some work over again. If you implement social software, information doesn’t die. Even if an employee leaves, whatever they posted lives on the company’s intranet and can be searched for and referenced at any time in the future.
