Jon Mell, Social Collaboration Leader at IBM North Europe presented a session at the Social Workplace Conference titled Social Business Design: Focus on People Powered Processes. Below are his slides, followed by a few additional thoughts.
Jon claimed that by allowing employees to have a “wall” (like Facebook) offers a better end product of conversation. Participants can see what was already discussed and build on it.
With email, you cannot do this (unless you CC everyone and all readers take the time to filter through these endless copies) because it is 1-1 communication. The end user is then forced to aggregate all private answers and come up with the best solution, whereas having a “wall” crowdsources the best answer.
